This song wasn’t written for debate. It came from watching the same images repeat —
conflict reduced to headlines, suffering turned into content. This is not analysis.
It’s a response.

Feels strange living in a country that calls itself free while funding things that don’t look like freedom anywhere else.01.16.26
Been studying the Vietnam War again. The footage doesn’t feel old. Just looks like a lower resolution version of today.01.21.26
I keep thinking about civilians. Every war has speeches. Civilians just get silence.01.25.26
There’s a difference between loving your country and agreeing with everything it does. People confuse the two on purpose.

Hip-Hop and rap have been one of the rawest form of music genres for the last 53 years. With the many complexities of this form of music, there’s a reason why it resonates with so many people, including me. It shows every aspect of what life is and exposes the many uncomfortable truths as a collective that needs to be address. From the many different styles of beats that have many ranges of emotions, with conscious Hip-Hop that speaks to your soul and makes you actualize your awareness like a J. Dilla beat, or to Kanye’s The College Dropout sped-up samples to the grittiness and experimental that isn’t afraid to be as raw as it is and isn’t afraid to be seen, like JPEGMAFIA’s chaotic drums or BROCKHAMPTON adding weird sounds that still fit the narrative and message. Pair that with lyricism, and you get a genre capable of touching the human spirit. The range of topics is vast: from the loneliness and heartbreak in Drake’s Take Care, existential questioning and self-awareness in the wisdom of Lupe Fiasco and Capital Steez to the dark and inner rage of Future’s DS2 or Kanye West’s Yeezus, as well as the political commentary and criticisms of society in Vince Staple’s Big Fish Theory or Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a ButterflyThere’s a big stigmatization from closed-minded people that Hip-Hop is a genre that has no dynamic range, or they try to put it in one singular box and stereotype the whole genre as they overlook its many layers. They say it’s all violence or materialism, but are not questioning themselves why it is expressing that or, what could it try to reflect on society itself. Also them not realizing they are judging just one section compared to the entire library. There’s something for everyone within Hip-Hop if they have the open-mindedness and effort to find it with the many sub-genres thats constantly evolving as the years go by. The more I’ve grown and evolved in life, the more I’ve realized that Hip-Hop evolves with me —always reflecting where I am and what I need. That could come in the form of my own writing and creativity with lyrics I express myself in the rawest of forms, or the new techniques and ways I make my beats on any DAW like FL Studio, Ableton, and Logic Pro.I think Bruce Lee stated this within his own philosophy of Jeet Kune Do that, which ties and represents perfectly on what Hip-Hop is — Honestly expressing yourself. Bruce Lee himself even admit that this is a very difficult thing to do, as we can often do lie to ourselves or ignore certain aspects that society condemns, or we imprison ourselves… making us our own greatest enemy and prisoner. I had a breakthrough moment during a dark chapter of my life from 2020 to 2022. I was caught in an unrequited love situation—the kind that slowly chips away at your spirit. I wanted something real with someone who couldn’t give me honesty in return. It felt like I was drowning in an ocean, gasping for air, screaming for help —and she just watched, knowing I needed truth, not games. It was at this time that Hip-Hop wasn’t just music —but for my survival and not lose myself to the lies that people showed with their facades and mask or my own lies that I may have spiritually bypassed and tried to gaslight myself that I am alright. It was when I pursued truth more than ever and still do. Whether it was spilling my emotions into verses or creating beats to match the chaos I felt inside. It transformed me into a more actualized being from the flesh of the body and mind to the spirit and soul. That’s what Hip-Hop is all about — pursuing the truth. Acknowledging both the light and dark aspects that we may go through in our personal lives and the many corruptions within human nature and oppressive systems that try to silence many issues that need to be talked about if we want to ever ascend from the dark aspects of humanity. So yes —Hip-Hop needs to be controversial and uncomfortable towards the masses. A mirror of what we are experiencing as a collective and what we can do to be better —it shows how we treat one another, who are we, and what false beliefs that society just blindly accepts even when they are morally wrong. So, my question to you is, what truth are you willing to bravely pursue?
